EirMED Rehabilitation Center (Russia) specializes in movement disabilities associated with injuries and diseases of the spinal cord. To help our patients rehabilitate, in addition to classical methods, we use modern development of the Movement Laboratory of the Pavlov Institute of Physiology of Russian Academy of Science. EirMED is one of the clinical bases of this Institute.

Main advantage

One of the key methods is the use of TSCS in the complex rehabilitation — transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the spinal cord. The advantage of the method is in the ability to launch new neural connections in nerve fibers that have retained integrity. This allows the brain to resume and stay in contact with other organs and tissues that were lost due to injury or disease.

How TSCS works

The method of transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the spinal cord exists since 2011, medical universities in several countries of the world are interested in it, three of them in the US, and one of each in South Korea, Switzerland, the UK, and Spain. It is clear that not all doctors and patients know about this new method, it still needs to be popularized.

EirMED rehabilitators, in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Science, have learned a lot about the use of TSCS. It was within our walls that the indications for using the method, the criteria for using effective frequencies, the list of contraindications, the duration and number of necessary rehabilitation courses were worked out. Patients from all over Russia come to us for rehabilitation, many from Moscow. Citizens of Sweden, Syria, Lebanon, Greece, the US, Latvia, Estonia and other countries of the world underwent rehabilitation with us.

TSCS method becomes effective in case of incomplete rupture of the spinal cord from the level of 3-4 cervical vertebrae and below, as well as the stroke of the spinal cord, spina bifida, syringomyelia and other non-oncological diseases that caused immobility of the lower and upper limbs, impaired sensitivity, function of the abdominal organs and small pelvis.

Usually, several courses are needed combining TSCS with physical therapy and therapeutic massage, lasting 12 days. At the end of the course, the rehabilitation effect continues to grow for approx. another 6 months  . The break between courses, usually, is from half year or longer, which is always decided individually. Each subsequent course leads to an increasing improvement in motor functions and sensitivity.

Who will benefit from TSCS

We consider it important to note that we have patients who have significantly improved their condition by starting treatment ten or more years after the injury, while classical methods of spinal rehabilitation remain effective only in the first one and a half to two years. And this is another argument in favor of the TSCS method. The method has a rather small list of contraindications.

The price of the rehabilitation course

The rehabilitation program is offered only on a paid basis, the cost depends on the number of sessions and the need to involve specialists and techniques. The cost of a two-week course is determined after an appointment with a specialist, based on the medical documents provided by the patient of an individual program and is the equivalent of an amount from 2,700 to 5,000 USD. The course begins with a complex examination and test stimulation, which determines the effectiveness of the TSCS technique for each patient.

Preliminary documents review is free of charge. Before the beginning of the course in our center, we conduct a comprehensive initial appointment with test electrical stimulation, where the individual susceptibility to TSCS is determined, and the risk of side effects is assessed. Sessions can be held not only in the premises of the center, but also at home or in a hotel.

The center’s rehabilitators are very enthusiastic about the success of the patients and are confident that everyone who wants to find a way to recover or improve the quality of life should try to use TSCS. The method is new, and we believe that it is worth offering and recommending to those who have searched for something similar before, but did not find it.

Where we are located

We are located in Russia, in the center of St. Petersburg, at 10 Vsevolod Vishnevsky Street. It is next to the Petrogradskaya subway station. Nearby there you could find comfortable apartments where you can stay during the course, which allows a wheelchair user to independently get to the rehabilitologist’s office: there is not a single threshold or obstacle along the way that complicates the path.
